Age Concern in Hythe

by jododds on June 23, 2009

Age Concern is based at Sanford House in Stade Street and is run by Cleo Drury. They provide numerous Day Care Services within the Day Care Centre offering practical support for older people regardless of their age, sex, secual orientation, religious beliefs and disabilities, promoting independence and enabling people to stay within their own homes for as long as possible.

Age Concern is part funded by a grant from Kent County Council Social Services but also raises money as a charity to enable the Trustees to provide the quality of care that they strive to maintain and to ensure that all staff are trained and follow all mandatory training requirements, as well as additional training for specific skills. They also receive donations and legacies. Donations to Age Concern Hythe are put to good use for local elderly residents in Hythe and surrounding areas.

Age Concern aims to provide a happy relaxed atmosphere where older people can interact and meet with others of a similar age group in a homely environment.

Many of the activities run by Age Concern Hythe wouldn’t be possible without the tremendous support of local volunteers who get involved in: the management committee; helping in the Day Care Centre; fundraising; running social activities; helping in the admin office and helping with donated items, getting them ready to sell.

Some of the services that are available at the centre (some at a cost, some are free) include: lunch; transport to and from the centre; assisted bathing; hairdressing; chiropody; footcare; hearing clinic; seated exercise; reflexology; arts and crafts; bingo; outings; internet access
