DWAYNE’S STORY
I came to Caldecott in 2004 and moved into Pine Lodge Assessment Centre. On my first day I hit the manager and was very angry at being moved away from London and my mum.
I stayed at Pine Lodge for six months, and began to go to the school and settle down. I then moved to another house where the older children live. It was hard having to make new friends and getting to know the adults. I also went to Caldecott School which meant being with more new people.
My behaviour was not good, and I used my size and strength to bully people, especially the women working at the house.
I felt really angry most of the time and would hit out at people because I could not talk about how I felt. This became so bad that I nearly had to leave the Foundation.
The staff at my house and the school helped me through this and I have really moved on from there. I have worked so hard in school that I have caught up on all the schooling I missed and am now ready to go to a mainstream school.
My teacher put me in for an award as I was doing very well at my school subjects. I went and received my certificate and a star achievement award at the Riverside Park Plaza Hotel in London. It was a very good day and I felt very proud and pleased with my efforts and achievements.
I am getting ready to leave the Caldecott as I have worked really hard to change my behaviour and do well at school. I would like to have a foster family and go to mainstream school.
