Howletts Wild Animal Park in Kent is home to lots of young and old gorillas, and is striving to give them the best possible care. You can actively help to prevent the extinction of these gorillas with the ‘Custodians of Gorillas’ support.
New Arrivals
One year ago three baby gorillas arrived at Howletts Zoo in Kent, from the Gabon. Kouki, Oudiki and Tiya are now completely at home in the forest, climbing and playing. It was thought that Tiya may have sustained an injury at birth as she was late in walking, but it seems that life in the forest has had a remarkable effect on her and she has settled in well. Kouki, Oudiki and Tiya are COG (Custodians of Gorillas) babies. The continued support from all COG’s is greatly appreciated as it helps to keep gorillas from extinction.
The three have been joined by a wild born female called Lekoko. The poor little girl had undergone an extensive quarantine period because of a horrible skin disease she caught, probably when she was captured by poachers. Lekoko seems sweet natured but is a real fighter, not at all bowed by the terrible experience she must have been through. Unfortunately she has an already well bonded group into which she has to assimilate, and Kouki and Oudiki make her know her place within Howletts.
